Review: Skincare from Dēpology

This year I turned 37, and I am not sure I can get away with saying I am in my mid-30s anymore now that 40 is closer than 30! Luckily, I have not really ever been bothered about my age – I have a lovely life and my age just isn’t really an important factor in it. That being said, I do try to ensure my skincare regime is (fairly) regular, particularly as I have dry/sensitive skin which will one day in the not-too-distant future begin to give away my closer to 40 than 30 years.

I am always on the lookout for new skincare innovations, so when Dēpology offered me the chance to try a couple of their products to give my skin a boost I was more than willing to give them a go. Dēpology was founded in Seoul, with the goal of working in innovative skincare labs (without testing on animals), to discover anti-ageing advancements.

With a curiosity for combining both traditional and trending ingredients with the power of Korea’s cutting-edge labs, they believe in working with your skin’s natural functions to develop effective formulas that target all signs of ageing—at any age. Their team of leading cosmetic chemists constantly tests and refines formulas to ensure visibly noticeable results.

Dēpology is powered by scientific data and a transparent approach to skincare with rigorous testing, from clinical trials to surveys. In fact, in consumer surveys 66.9% of users saw more hydrated skin, 54.7% saw improved skin texture, 44.7% saw a noticeable reduction in fine lines, 46.31% saw firmer skin. All sound very positive to me!

So, what was I sent to try out? Dēpology sent me their Matrixyl® 3000 collagen-boosting serum and Peptide complex 10% argireline™ peptide serum.

Matrixyl® 3000 collagen boosting serum

The Matrixyl® serum has been formulated to counter the visible signs of ageing, hydrate, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles which is particularly attractive for someone heading towards 40! It is formulated with premium ingredients designed to target and slow down the appearance of wrinkles whilst promoting the production of collagen in the skin. The core ingredient is made of two peptides that work synergistically to restore and maintain the skin’s youthful appearance by signalling to cells to produce more collagen.

The serum is applied after cleansing and toning the skin every morning and night, particularly focusing on dehydrated skin, the neck and décolléte area. It is suitable for dry and sensitive skin types just like mine, and although it is effective on its own, Dēpology recommends using the serum consistently twice a day and combining it with their Micro-Dart patches.

They recommend the following routine:

  1. Thoroughly cleanse and tone the skin.
  2. Apply a few drops of serum onto your palm and massage gently onto face. Make sure to apply generously to areas where age lines form easily such as forehead and around the eyes.
  3. After the serum has absorbed fully into the skin, apply your favourite Micro-Dart patches. Once in contact with the skin, the Micro-Darts will start to dissolve and activate the serum into the skin.
  4. Apply moisturiser to face to help seal in key ingredients. If you are wearing patches, apply the moisturiser around the patches.

Peptide complex 10% argireline™ peptide serum

This is a peptide serum formulated with Argireline™ peptide to prevent muscle movement that leads to wrinkle formation, it is described to deliver notable wrinkle-reducing and preventive benefits, which helps to combat fine lines and promote moisture levels in the skin.

Similar to the first product, this serum is best applied after cleansing and toning the skin every morning and night, and in fact, works well in conjunction with the use of the Matrixyl 3000 Serum. This peptide serum works extremely well in areas where expressive and dynamic wrinkles occur. Again it is suitable for all skin types – especially dehydrated aging skin and treatment of the 11’s line area.

They recommend the following routine:

  1. Thoroughly cleanse and tone the skin.
  2. Apply a few drops of serum onto your palm and massage gently onto face. Make sure to apply generously to areas where age lines form easily such as forehead and around the eyes.
  3. Combine with Power C Serum or Matrixyl 3000 Serum as you needed in your routine, follow with moisturiser; and sunscreens if applied in the morning

The active ingredients include Argireline™, which targets dynamic wrinkles resulting in reduction of wrinkle depth and length of wrinkles, resulting in smoother and younger looking skin. Vita-polypeptide, which is an advanced, stable form of Vitamin C, derived from the combination of ascorbic acid and polypeptide – provides anti-ageing benefits and protects the skin from free radicals. Also included is K-science blend, a combination of k-beauty natural extracts, a nourishing combination of Cica, Heartleaf, Fig Extract, and Camomile Flower oil which provides protective and soothing benefits for skin, while high potency peptides specifically target wrinkles.

I have been using these products in combination for the last few weeks, and although I feel more time is needed for the benefits to fully manifest, I have observed that my skin feels softer and better hydrated than before. Both serums have a pleasant texture and apply very nicely to the skin, unlike some serums which can be sticky or difficult to apply. I look forward to continuing to use both the Matrixyl® 3000 and argireline™ peptide serums in my regular skincare routine and am happy to award them both 5 out of 5 stars.
