Lunch at Rocket Bishopsgate

Who doesn’t love a fancy lunch during a work day? Something a bit special? I was lucky enough to be invited out to Rocket at Bishopsgate just around the corner from where I work, to celebrate a colleague’s five years service. I had meant to visit Rocket before but hadn’t gotten around to it!

The interior of Rocket if certainly something different, with a mix of sleek and stylish furniture, colourful features and oddly enough giant space invaders on the walls! We were shown to our table which was a booth in the corner right next to the windows which was lovely as it let in lots of light and we could peak out at the passers by.

We decided to go for mains and puddings with a couple of cheeky drinks (including cocktails!) I chose the seasonal calzone with a pesto cream base, mozzarella, spinach, green olives, mushrooms, ricotta and semi dried tomatoes – a delicious sounding veggie option. Two of my four  co-workers went for the rare beef and chip salad with rocket, deep fried green beans, red onions, radishes, crispy garlic, fried chilli, gingered black bean dressing and served with a ginger-mustard mayonnaise. One chose the regular calzone filled with chorizo sausage, prawns, roasted tomatoes, olives, red onions, jalapeños, parsley, tomatoes and mozzarella and the final lady selected a burger from the grill options with chunky chips.

For drinks I first split a nice chilled cider with a co-worker, but we did also go for a cheeky cocktail – I selected the espresso martini which looked fantastic and tasted amazing! I really recommend the cocktails at Rocket they are lovely.

My calzone was really impressive, it was huge! Of course there was air inside not all pizza, but it looked great! The insides were steaming hot and really delicious I really liked the mushrooms and pesto sauce, the dough was really soft, not hard and crispy which gave a nice texture to the dish. I must admit that I didn’t have much room for the salad after eating the calzone!

Then… pudding! Yes, we decided to go for some sweet treats at the end of our meals. I went for the sticky toffee pudding (my favourite pudding ever), others went for sorbet, cheesecake and a shot of limoncello! My sticky toffee pudding looked incredible, a neat cube of light sponge smothered in sticky sweet toffee sauce with a yummy ice cream sitting on top. I really couldn’t fault it!

My fellow lunchers also enjoyed their meals, the beef salad was particularly complemented! We all had a lovely time at Rocket, with it’s flavourful food, tasty cocktails and fascinating interior I would certainly go back again as a treat – perhaps this time in the evening with my husband (who I had felt a little guilty wasn’t invited along for the lunch!)
