Review: Noodle pot from Innocent

As a city worker it can be hard to find something tasty and healthy to have to lunch. Sandwiches every day can get to be monotonous especially for vegetarians whom not always get the same range of options as meat eaters. So when I spotted something new in the Tescos Metro on the way to work the other day I decided it was time to change it up a little and give something different a go!

We all know Innocent as the brand whom brings us fruity smoothies but they are lesser known for the other products they offer such as veg pots which offer 3 portions of vegetables in a handy pot and with delicious combinations such as thai vegetable sweet chilli, bombay curry & roasted aubergine moussaka. I have tried the veg pots and have found them to be a great lunch option for those of us bored with the usual lunches.

A new product from Innocent are their noodle pots – all under 300 calories, inspired  by asian street food the noodle pots offer combinations of different types of noodles and flavours from a range including vietnamese curry, malaysian rendang & japanese ramen. The ramen being the one I picked up the other day to try.

The japanese ramen consists of udon noodles with shiitake mushrooms in a light miso sauce. It is 197 calories, naturally low fat and 2 of your 5-a-day for those counting their veg portions. You simply take the lid off of the pot, place in the microwave for a few minutes, give it a stir and tuck in. I really liked the flavour of the mushrooms with a mass of different vegetables including onion, yellow pepper, red onion, water chestnut, ginger, edamame beans with yellow bean sauce.

The noodles themselves were surprisingly good considering they came out of a microwaved pot, but they had just the right consistency being firm but not too hard but soft enough to be easy to eat and went really well with the Japanese inspired flavours in the vegetable mix. I am happy to give the Noodle pots from Innocent a 4 out of 5 for being convenient, tasty and healthy!
