Healthy Option BBQ from Quorn

We can’t really escape it – in Britain, summer is synonymous with a good old fashioned BBQ. We dust off the cobwebs on our outdoor cooking equipment and proudly attempt to grill up a tasty meal – usually under an umbrella! If your BBQs have been anything like the ones my family hold then often it leads to a sinful grab everything you can event where afterwards you feel like you’re going to explode!

As a vegetarian I am no stranger to Quorn and often have it as a meat-alternative on a BBQ – I am happy in the knowledge that it is not only meat-free but rather a bit more healthy than the beef burgers and pork sausages being consumed by my companions. When Quorn invited me along to attend their summer BBQ I was happy to  come along and enjoy some old favourites and some new ideas!

The BBQ was held at The Crabtree, a lovely Victorian pub in Fulham with a gorgeous garden perfect for al fresco cooking and dining. Once everyone had arrived we learn a bit about Quorn’s healthy protein options before getting to tuck into some ourselves! As well as the tasty burgers and sausages we were able to try some of my favourites: cocktail sausages and picnic eggs (like scotch eggs only minus the meat!) – both were delicious and perfect for a picnic or BBQ.

The burgers and sausages had been marinated before being put into the grill, the burgers had a deep BBQ flavour and a mango chutney had been applied to the sausages which gave them a sweet, tangy flavour. You can find the recipe for sticky sausage skewers on the Quorn website – I recommend you take a look

Accompanying our Quorn was a tasty salad and some slightly naughty crisps and we had plenty of Pimms to keep us hydrated! I really enjoyed trying out the meat-free BBQ options from Quorn and was really happy to see that the other bloggers attending the event – most of them meat eaters – found the healthier options to be flavourful too.

All in all we had a really great evening, the food was tasty, the company was engaging and the weather – thank goodness  – held out for us.
