Review: Wagamamas (Spitalfields)

Miso

I’ve been suffering from a bit of a nasty cold for the last few days, and seeking a healthier option for a evening meal out my husband and we visited Wagamamas in Spitalfields Market. I have been to Wagamamas a few times before and have always found it a pleasant experience. Vlad decided upon having green tea with his meal, whereas I went for orange berry juice which was delicious and made me feel like I was getting a good dose of vitamins!

Wagamamas

As a Vegetarian I find Wagamamas offer a good range of tasty, healthy food at a fairly decent price. We started with a miso soup each and shared a bowl of salted edamame beans to share. Wagamamas offer a lovely miso soup complete with seaweed, pieces of tofu and Japanese pickles! It is a good starter for your meal and complements the rest of the meal. The steamed edamame beans covered in salt were crisp, warm and delicious.

For the main dish I ordered the yasai yaki soba – teppan-fried whole wheat noodles with egg, beansprouts, peppers, white and spring onions, mushroom and garlic. garnished with fried shallots, pickled ginger, sesame seeds and coriander vinegar. I am a bit of a soy sauce addict so having drenched the noodle dish in soy I found the meal a fusion of Japanese flavours with tangy ginger and crunchy vegetables.

Vlad went for the yaki udon – teppan-fried udon noodles in curry oil with chicken, prawns, chikuwa, egg, beansprouts, leeks, mushrooms and peppers. garnished with fried shallots, pickled ginger and sesame seeds.

We were both very happy with the experience at Wagamamas in Spitalfields, and I would recommend Wagamamas to everyone – especially those who are a bit weary of Japanese style food as this is a good introduction to the flavours and ingredients used in eastern cuisine. I give it 4 stars.
