Review: Rococo Chocolates for Christmas

Along with socks, PJs and bath sets, chocolates must be one of the most given gifts at Christmas, and for good reason. In the UK we eat an estimated 660,900 tonnes of chocolate a year, an average of 11kg per person per year and with special festive editions of most of our favourites, it makes sense that chocolate is a popular Christmas gift.

The majority of my family are into chocolate in a big way, although each one has their own preferences; from my Dad who prefers basic, cheaper chocolate to my Mum who refuses all but her favourite brand and my boyfriend who enjoys sampling all the new vegan chocolates which appear on the market. I am the only one in my family that doesn’t love chocolate. I don’t dislike it, I just find one or two chocolates enough whereas the others could eat a whole box in one sitting!

When I was offered the chance to review some of the range from Rococo Chocolates I jumped at the chance to try something new and find some potential gifts for my chocolate obsessed family!

Rococo Chocolates have been making British chocolate for over thirty-five years, having been established on the King’s Road in London in 1983. Their rich heritage and expertise feeding into new tastes and experiences to chocolate lovers. They believe in setting trends, not following them and pride themselves on ethical and sustainable practices.

Rococo Chocolates now boasts having five London shops brimming with luxurious chocolate gifts and their innovative handmade small-batch truffles which are all made in their London kitchens by a team of Chocolatiers. They describe themselves as the go-to chocolate shop for thoughtful, generous gifters.

From chocolate truffle boxes to spiced artisan chocolate bars and festive nibbles you will find all manner of delicious treats in Rococo’s Christmas range perfect for stocking fillers, after-dinner chocolates, gifts for friends and family or simply just a treat for you.

This year Rococo have a few new items including Winter Spice Truffles, Holly Jolly Caramel and a Constellation of Stars to bring back fond memories of Christmases past. They also have some new additions including a Celebration of Polar Bears, Dark Chocolate Brandy Raisins and White Chocolate Cranberries.

When I opened the box which arrived at my doorstep I was met with a beautiful presentation box that Rococo use for their festive hampers. Inside I found the Night Before Christmas dark chocolate collection, dark chocolate brandy raisins and milk chocolate rum raisins.

The Night before Christmas dark chocolate collection includes deliciously 65%+ dark chocolates and truffles that are beautifully presented in a green Rococo gift box with gold Christmas toile and a story can be found inside. Perfect for anyone that prefers dark chocolate, the collection combines chocolate with nuts, ginger, lemon, Kirsch and crunchy cereals for an exciting festive treat.

Who doesn’t love chocolate covered fruit, especially at Christmas? The 58%+ dark chocolate brandy raisins are a fantastic treat for anyone who loves smaller hits of cocoa and sugar. This little bag is full of plump and juicy raisins soaked in warming brandy and enrobed in deliciously dark chocolate. These would make fantastic stocking fillers or if you’re feeling generous empty them into bowls for guests on Christmas Day to nibble on.

If you don’t like the bitterness of dark chocolate then why not try the sweeter option of milk chocolate? The delicious chocolate-covered juicy raisins also come in a version with creamy milk chocolate and soaked in rum for comforting warmth. Does anything get better than that at Christmas?

I was really impressed by the care and attention to detail both with the presentation and with the chocolates themselves. The range of flavours and textures were satisfying and certainly indulgent. I think any of the items in the Christmas range would make for fantastic festive gifts, although I recommend keeping them all to yourself! I award the Rococo Christmas chocolates 5 out of 5 stars and will certainly be checking in to see what their next seasonal range has to offer.
