Review: Feast in the Fields at London Fields Brewery

You’d have seen my post the other day talking about my plans for the weekend: visiting the monthly Feast in the Fields event at London Fields Brewery which celebrates delicious street food and locally produced beer.

We made our way to London Fields not really knowing what we’d be finding when we arrived as it was our first time at the event – however we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find a vibrant street food market set up alongside the railway bridges next to the London Fields Brewery.

Having been invited to review the event we were given our food and drink vouchers and found ourselves a seat inside the make-shirt conservatory at the end of the row of foodie stalls before my husband and friend Amelia went to explore the stalls whilst I saved our seats.

I was happy to see that they came back with some exciting looking foods to try: a duck burger (for the meat easters), a veggie friendly curry combo with rice and paneer with vegetables and finally a box of spicy vegetable stew topped with fresh crunch salad and 3 incredible aranchini (fried rice balls coated with breadcrumbs with mozzarella).

I was told that the duck burger from Jamie’s Underground Pop Up was really good by my meat eating companions, they certainly seemed to enjoy it! The curry platter from Gupta’s was great with fluffy rice, a mild spicy curry sauce, the paneer mix and some yummy indian treats. The aranchini dish from the Aranchini brothers was a bit too spicy for me, but I really enjoyed the mix of vegetable stew and salad and the best bit were the aranchini which were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and who can resist melted tasty cheese?

The three of us shared the various foods and tried some of the beers made by the brewery – we tried the Hackney Hopster & Hackney Black draft porter. The Hopster was a good choice for me as it wasn’t ‘too’ beery, as I am not really a beer drinker and the Porter was a dark beer more along the lines of a Guiness which my husband enjoyed alongside his food.

In all we had a lovely day, the weather was great the food was delicious and the beer was refreshing. The event is a monthly one and we will certainly consider coming back another time with more friends in tow.
