Review: Custom Eggstamps for Chicken Keepers

Back in February this year my mother and I decided to rescue 4 ex-commercial chickens via the charity Fresh Start for Hens. Now we have 10, that’s called Chicken Maths! Our original set up with an Omlet Cube and simple chicken fencing however, once we spotted a fox lurking about we knew we had to upgrade to the safer walk-in run.

It’s made a huge difference! We also have 2 Ring cameras for keeping an eye on our feathered friends. The chickens had spent the first 18 months of their lives in a cage so this was a big change for them. They were lacking many feathers and were a bit unsure for a while but they soon settled in.

An added bonus to giving ex-commercial hens a retirement home is the eggs! Farmers send chickens to slaughter at 18 months old because they start to become less reliable layers but they can continue producing eggs! With our brood of 10 chooks, we get between 6-9 eggs per day which the family enjoys. We also give them away to friends and neighbours.

A friend of mine told me about Kelly at Eggs Stamps UK who sells and creates premade and personalised egg stamps and egg box stamps perfect for ‘branding’ or adding a little flare to home-produced eggs.

I thought this was a great idea and so I whipped up a little logo using Canva and ordered a 2cm custom egg stamp and a matching custom box stamp. It only took a week or so for the stamps to arrive and I was super excited to try them! I had bought some non-toxic purple ink in preparation and just had to have a go right away!

There is definitely a knack for stamping a flat image onto a round surface and it has taken a bit of practice to get it right but we are really loving these stamps. Whenever we give away our eggs to friends, family, and locals we use the stamp so everyone knows where the eggs came from, our lovely retired ex-commercial hens.

The stamps are top-notch quality and the logo I designed is perfectly recreated with each stamp. I would certainly recommend Kelly to anyone looking to add a bit of something special to their home-produced eggs and award the stamps 5 out of 5 stars.
