Pip & Nut: Nut Butters with a Twist

Don’t be fooled. Peanut butter is not the only nut butter out there. If you’re looking for something new on your crumpets, in your sandwiches or in your smoothies then I can’t recommend trying other nut butters a go. I like to think I have an open mind and I have tried a few different nut butter options since I discovered them so when Pip & Nut got in touch to see if I would give their range a go, I was keen to learn more.

Pip & Nut is a company who believe that food should be super tasty, yet packed with nutrients and energy without the use of refined sugars (unhealthy) and palm oil (bad fats). Their range of nut butters (good fats) are free of e-numbers, preservatives and additives instead using natural ingredients to boost the flavour of their spreads. We were sent: peanut butter*, almond butter*, coconut almond butter* and honey cinnamon cashew butter* to try out.

My favourite has to be the honey cinnamon cashew butter purely for it’s amazing flavour combination of creamy cashew with sweetness from the natural flower honey and a lovely warming effect from the cinnamon. The cashew butter is quite runny and needs a good mix before use as the ingredients can separate a bit due to the lack of palm oil but I couldn’t care less as it is worth it! I really love adding the honey cinnamon cashew butter into smoothies as a treat.

Made with Californian almonds, the almond butter again has a slightly runny texture but is easy to spread or dribble. I love the flavour of almonds and am a keen drinker of almond milk so it was great to try our the almond butter. I enjoyed spreading the almond butter onto corn thins (like rice cakes but made from corn), and adding a drizzle of golden syrup for a sweet kick.

The peanut butter is made from a blend of gently roasted whole nuts with a sprinkling of sea salt which gives it a bold, indulgent flavour. It has a good thick texture which spreads well but I do find it sticks to the inside of my mouth which I personally can find a little unpleasant. Apparently this effect is due to the high protein in the butter and the peanut oil which can inhibit saliva’s natural ability to break down food.

I wasn’t sure that I would be able to taste the coconut in the coconut almond butter but I was pleasantly surprised that I really could! My husband is a big user of coconut oil so it’s a flavour I have become very used to. Again this butter had a runny texture. I think the coconut works really well with the almond flavour and it’s a great way to try something a bit different for breakfast or a tasty snack.

I have to admit that the 4 jars we were sent didn’t last long. Between adding a spoonful into my morning smoothies and enjoying on toasted crumpets to my husband gobbling them down on grain-free corn thins we were soon left with empty jars. The good news is that they are available in lots of high street stores so I can pick up some more soon! We are happy to award Pip & Nut 5 stars for their range of delicious nut butters.
