A romantic place in London: Gordon’s wine bar

London, Gordon’s wine bar

If you are dating someone and you would like to impress the person with a very nice bar where the atmosphere is phenomenal, then I would definitely suggest Gordon’s wine bar near Embankment. As its website explains, this wine bar is one of the oldest in London, dated 1890 and it preserves entirely its old fashion. The furniture is very old, it seems to be back in time in a Victorian London, where the candles are on the top of each wooden tables.

Once you go inside through the entrance door, you will see a deep down corridor with steps. After you arrive in the first room downstairs, on the right hand-side there is the food counter which is typically European. I would suggest a good cheese and ham platter to go with red wine now, as the winter is almost here.

On the left hand-side from the food-counter, you can see the bar where the wine is served. You can really get any type of wines here: from the cheapest which would cost about £15 for a bottle to higher prices.

The best part of the bar is actually the main room: the ceiling is very low, and it seems to me that above it there is the station or something by the shape of it (tubular).

It’s very dark, and the only font of light comes from the candles (really romantic and old-fashioned).

I strictly recommend to go during the week to avoid the crowd (it’s very popular) or quite early in the weekend.

I love it, it’s the best wine bar in London!!
