Visit a Convention

Conventions are a great way sharing a passion and there are plenty of gaming conventions! We have a number of them happening in the UK – EGX takes place in October, UK Games Expo and the London Anime & Gaming Con at the end of July. Conventions usually have a large amount of displays where you can buy games. merch, etc as well as speakers and panels to enjoy, perfect for a gaming-inspired date.

Online Games Night

I have to admit that although I didn’t succumb to online gaming with my boyfriend during lockdown I did consider it a few times, particularly as we both own a Nintendo Switch which has an online gaming option and would make for a good gamerdates evening. There are so many options available for taking a date night digital with most consoles having an online player function. So, load up your favourite game at home and challenge your partner!

Vintage Games Night

Pac Man, Space Invaders, Tomb Raider, Spyro and Donkey Kong, all classic games which you might not have played in some time! Put together a gamer’s feast alongside your favourite retro games for a fab night in date. You’ll be swept up in the nostalgia and will prompt some great stories about your childhood which will let you get to know each other better.

If you want a break from screens then why not try a real-life gaming scenario in the form of an Escape Room? These have become super popular over the last few days and for good reason – they are great bonding experiences! Find and decipher riddles and clues with your date in order to solve mysteries. It get the blood and adrenaline pumping.

Visit an arcade

Why not take your date to a local arcade and play some games together? Some of my favourite memories involve spending time with my friends at the arcade at a bowling alley where we would pair up and play all sorts of retro games. The Zombie ones were always our favourite! The buzzing atmosphere will make for excellent gamer dates.

Games Inspired Movie Night

From the Tomb Raider movies to the new Jumanji movies, Tron, Wreck it Ralph, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and one of my favourites Ready Player One, there are many many movies which have been inspired by games! Grab some popcorn, some chocolate bars and some beers for a gaming-themed movie night.
