What’s Missing From Your Garden Deck That Would Make It A Whole Lot Cosier?

If you’ve got a newly installed garden deck in your backyard, we envy you! It’s a lovely addition to any garden space, and it’s going to provide a whole lot more function and comfort for the upcoming summer season.

And yet, a lot of new garden decks miss out on certain cosy additions that make it a whole lot nicer. If you want to step out your back door and feel like you’ve entered a new room in your home, here are a few extra design tips to keep in mind.

Potted Plant Privacy

Decks tend to be pretty brown against a backdrop of greenery. If you’re seeing this as a problem in your garden, we’re here with a solution: put down some potted plants! Window boxes, small plant beds, and even just pots in the corner will work.

You’ll also get a better sense of privacy on your deck if you’re surrounded by plants whilst you’re using it. Neighbours won’t be able to peek in, and you can relax on your deckchair with a good book and a cocktail next to you.

An Awning

If you’re planning to use the deck primarily during the summer period, you might want to get an awning fitted over it. Not only can an awning be pushed in and pulled out as and when you need it, but it’s a lot easier to wrangle than a separate gazebo. Trying to fit one of these over the top of a deck, especially if it’s close to a house, is going to be extremely difficult!

Visit Open Space Concepts to get an idea of how an awning like this can be fitted. You want an awning that’s going to provide plenty of shade for midday sun exposure, but won’t get in the way of securing a lovely tan either. Either way, popping up weather protection of some kind will make your deck a whole lot more fit for purpose.

Comfortable Garden Chairs

Deckchairs can get a bit uncomfortable to sit on; if they’re slatted against your back and you’re spending more than an hour reclining on them, this goes for double! So make sure you invest in garden furniture that’s actually comfortable to sit on

Don’t worry too much about keeping these pieces safe from the rain – you can pack them away during the wet seasons, and keep them stored under the awning if you do decide to get one installed.

Make sure you have somewhere to put things as well. You’re going to need at least a coffee table to fit in between all the chairs you place on the deck. You don’t want to be knocking things over because you’ve been resting them on the ground, and then totally forgotten about it when you went to get up again!

Your garden deck is lovely as is, but it could be even better for you. Make the investment truly pay off using a few design tips like these ones above.
