Visit to the London Eye

Incredible view across London

I was lucky enough to be invited to a promotional evening at the London eye recently whereby I was treated to a trip around the ferris-wheel like attraction on London’s South Bank. Tickets usually range from £17 upwards for various options including a guided tour of London’s skyline, champagne experience and even 3 course meal! As this was a promotional event my attendance was free of charge!

The eye travels at 26cm per second, twice as fast as a tortoise sprinting; allowing passengers to step on and off without the wheel having to stop, however in this instance, they kindly stopped the Eye for us to pile into our capsule, sadly the weather was a little dull however this did not get in the way of the excitement at the prospect of the trip around the wheel.

Now I am not great with things that dangle in the air – I have a bit of a phobia about lifts and had a memorable experience in the ferris wheel at Winter Wonderland last December so I was slightly anxious. However, I found the journey around the wheel to be slow and steady without jerky movements which gave me confidence!

Treated to champagne and juice as our capsule travelled around the 443 ft tall structure overlooking the Thames. The views were amazing, I snapped some photos on the journey. You could pick out the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, The Shard, St Paul’s and a number of other famous London locations. Despite the grey sky and threat of rain the experience was incredible.

I felt really awed by London and by the panoramic views across the city. Despite my fears I really enjoyed myself and would recommend the London Eye to anyone wishing to see the sights from a whole new angle.

  1. Looks like a delightful experience!
    Great photos!

I studied art history abroad in London during graduate school…but it was before The London Eye existed! 🙂

    Wishing you all the best,
