Looking after your skin during the summer months

Don’t just go for any sun cream on the shelf

The days are longer, and the sun is hotter — summer is in full swing! So, it’s time to start planning your summer vacation and to start thinking about which summer escape you’d like to go on. But before you start packing and planning, you’ve got to start thinking about your skin. And by “thinking,” we mean checking, applying, and reapplying your sun cream! Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy the weather. But it’s also an easy time to get sunburnt. If you’re going to spend a lot of time in the sun, then you need to take extra precautions to protect your skin.

Don’t just pick any sun cream that is on the shelf and has a good price tag to match it. The chances are you won’t be doing your skin any favours! Sun creams are rated on their UVA and UVB protection levels. Choosing a sun cream that offers only one of these UV protections is not going to offer you the best protection you can get. Instead, pick a cream that offers a good level of both UVA and UVB protection to support your skin.

Treat your skin to a glowing facial

Being out in the sun for too long not only leaves your skin looking a little (or a lot) sunburnt. The sun can dry out our skin, leaving it looking dull, flat, and flaky in appearance. To combat this, why not treat yourself to a beautiful facial from a face and skin clinic? Having a hot glow facial will leave your skin looking beautiful with great tone, texture, and skin quality to keep you looking radiant even in the height of summer!

Not only should you be considering a relaxing facial, but you should also consider altering your normal skincare regime to fit with the change in temperature. Make sure you regularly splash your face with water to remove grime, dirt and debris and keep on top of face wash with a gentle scrub morning and night. This will help to reduce the risk of breakouts and keep your face looking polished.

The importance of moisturising regularly

As the weather warms up, we tend to spend more time outside, which can lead to our skin drying out. It’s important to remember that the skin plays an important part in the body’s natural cooling system, so keeping it healthy and hydrated is essential. The skin is the body’s largest organ, and its function is to maintain homeostasis and protect the body from disease and infection. During the summer months, you’ll want to ensure you’re taking the best care of your skin. You want to make sure that your skin is as hydrated as possible and that you aren’t getting sunburnt or suffering from heat exhaustion. One of the most important things you can do to look after your skin during the summer is to moisturise regularly.

Choose a good quality moisturiser that helps to lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated. We recommend using a moisturiser after you have had a shower (apply within 15 minutes to really lock in the water) and generally morning and evening to keep your skin feeling happy and healthy!
