Keeping Your Bedroom Cool: How To Get Summer Ready In 2022

Summer is fast approaching, and it won’t be long before the nights get longer and warmer. Although it is lovely to see the sun again, it doesn’t come without its problems. If you struggle to sleep during humid nights, you know how frustrating it can be. Below we explore how you can keep your bedroom cool so you can be summer-ready in 2022.

Change Your Blinds

Did you know that your blinds can make a huge difference to how hot or cool your bedroom is? Fitting blackout or thermal blinds can keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. This is also better for the environment and your energy bills.

Lifestyle Blinds have a range of eco-friendly blinds that will keep your room looking cosy whilst still offering a cool sleeping environment. Just make sure to keep them closed during the day, as this will stop your bedroom from heating up while you’re at work.

Invest In Summer Sheets

Winter is almost over, so that means it’s time to change your sheets and invest in some lighter ones. This can freshen up your bedroom and cool you down during the night, especially if you still prefer to sleep with something over you. Invest in high-quality cotton sheets, as cotton is breathable and lightweight. Your duvet should also be swapped out too, for a lower tog. For summer, a duvet of 4.5 togs is recommended.

Add Some Plants

Great news for plant lovers: having plants in your bedroom can keep the room cooler, especially when summer comes around. As part of their natural process, plants consume warm air and cool down the air around them by releasing water from their leaves. The best plants to invest in for the bedroom are weeping figs (also known as ficus Benjamina) and Chinese evergreens.

Switch The Lights

Halogen and incandescent bulbs can produce heat, meaning you should keep them turned off as much as possible during summer. You may want to switch them out for a more energy-efficient bulb, as this can reduce your energy bills, as well as give off less heat.

If you want to make your room summer-ready, why not invest in some LED fairy lights, as these barely give off any heat at all and bring a whole new vibe to your room. You can even get ones that change colour, so you can choose a setting that goes with the theme of your bedroom. They also come with a remote, so you don’t have to get out of bed to turn them off.

Open The Windows (Not All Of Them)

Many of us make the mistake of opening every window and door in the property to cool down on a hot day. Opening the wrong windows will actually attract hot air in, so it is best to only open windows that are south-facing, not north-facing. Heat rises, so open the attic window if you have one, to give the air someplace to go.

To keep your bedroom cool, change your blinds, invest in summer sheets, add some greenery to your bedroom, switch your lights, and open some of the windows. This can help you to get ready for a good sleep, despite the rising temperatures during summer.
