How to Have the Perfect Staycation

Even though it’s a brand new year, you might already feel like you need a holiday. We get it. When life happens, it moves quickly — and it’s often two steps ahead of us. Yet, we also understand that it’s not always easy or probable to jump on a train, bus, or plane and take a week off of our responsibilities. Fortunately, there are many ways to treat yourself from home, including planning a staycation.

A staycation is a concept where rather than travel abroad, individuals stay within distance of their homes and take part in activities like visiting local parks, pools, or amusement parks. The idea first took flight in the United States in 2008 before becoming a phenomenon in the United Kingdom one year later. However, with a staycation, you’re still required to go to an actual destination, even if it’s only ten minutes down the road. We propose something different: a staycation from inside the four walls of your house. For this to be successful, we’ve come up with a couple of ideas to get the ball rolling.

Come Up With A Theme

Staying inside over the weekend can seem boring, which is why we suggest coming up with a theme. In fact, decorating your house accordingly can help you feel like you’re not even at home at all. For example, if you’re craving a trip to Spain, why not turn your living room into an all-inclusive resort? In one corner, you can have the swim-up bar; in the other, beach towels and volleyballs. In the background, flamenco music can play via Spotify or Apple Music.

Likewise, if you’ve just watched No Time To Die and now you want to go somewhere like Las Vegas, why not turn your house into your own casino? You can dress up in a ball gown or a tuxedo, make Bond-inspired drinks and food, and play online casino games like poker, blackjack, roulette, and even bingo slots from your living room. Not to mention, most online casino platforms offer promotions like daily free spins and deposit bonuses, which means playing online from your home is a win-win situation. There are also some very low-stake games available too, and you can even play 20p roulette here for a true Bond night. If you’re really going for the Vegas feel, you can also throw on YouTube videos of old Cirque du Soleil or Celine Dion performances to replicate the atmosphere of the Strip even more.

Take Advantage Of Technology

It doesn’t always seem like it, but technology is there to improve our lives. While expensive, several new technological innovations can transport us into different and exciting worlds from our living room or bedroom. The most obvious is virtual reality, which is expected to play a role in tourism in the coming years. For instance, the VR application Wander lets users explore the world through Google StreetView. Whether you want to visit the Eiffel Tower or The Great Wall of China, Wander lets you do this in the most realistic ways possible.

Another example is Meta’s recently launched VR social platform Horizon Worlds. This multiplayer VR social space lets players make friends and create their own virtual worlds. You get to customise your avatars and participate in a range of games and activities, making Horizon Worlds a great escape from reality, which is what vacations are for.
Just because you can’t jet across the globe doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a break. Likewise, just because you’ve decided to stay home at the weekend doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do

A staycation is a great way to rejuvenate yourself, especially when done from the comfort of your own home.
