How To Decorate Your Seaside Home

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to live near water. I think it probably stems from spending a lot of time with my family on holidays to the Norfolk Broads as a child. I just love being near nature, seeing wildlife and feeling the calm of being outside.

I would love to live a short walk away from the water, and let’s face it nothing really beats living near the beach! Having a seaside home is definitely on my bucket list. Today I am going to give you some great advice on how to bring some nautical flair to your seaside home.

Decorating your seaside home is actually a lot of fun. You can bring the beachside into your house pretty easily and we want to share some ideas with you.

Seaside homes look great with a mixture of natural wood furniture with parts of it painted white. You could take a tired old table and sand it down, paint the top white and leave the legs natural pine wood. This would look lovely with white chairs and blue and white table clothe or table runners.

Vertical wooden slats or shiplap on the wall give a look of a beach hut inside your home. Paint them white to give them a bright clean look. Or go full beach hut and choose bright or pastel colours! You don’t need to do this to all of the walls, only a feature wall is enough to look good. You can also add some nautical pictures to the wall and surrounding areas.

Striped bedding will really bring in a touch of the nautical in the bedrooms. It doesn’t have to be any particular colour, although navy would be on point. You can choose to match it with your colour scheme and repeat the stripes elsewhere such as bed cushions, curtains or rugs.

For a child’s bedroom paint the bottom half of the walls yellow and the top blue – it looks like the beach! Adorn a feature wall with a seaside-inspired mural; add clouds, birds and boats in the sea. For a more authentic look, rub sand into the paint to give it a rough sand look.

If any room in the house screams out to be maritime-themed, it’s the bathroom. Hang a fishing net from the ceiling, pop in dried starfish, seaweed and shells. Buy or make your own sea-themed mobile and decorate the mirror with shells and driftwood. You can also paint the outside of your bath in nautical colours and add towels in the same colour theme. Don’t forget the Sailor rubber ducky!

Hallways can be decorated with some carefully positioned beach themed bits like rowing oars and a fishing net. They look great as visitors step in the door and you’re sure to make a great first impression!
