How to choose the perfect wedding stationery

Congratulations! You’re engaged! Bathe in the joy for now, but don’t forget just around the corner you will need to break out your best organisation and budgeting skills to create the day of your dreams. I remember when I was planning my Wedding I had everything written down in a spreadsheet to keep on track! Check out my tips to help your wedding day go smoothly here.

When you say the word ‘Wedding’ everyone automatically thinks of the dress, the cake, the venue but one of the first things you need to think about is your stationery. Save the Date cards are a must if you want to make sure all your guests can make it. It was certainly one of the first things on my to-do list.

I decided I wanted to make my own save the date cards and invitations as I was and am a crafty sort, but looking back now I really think I should have chosen professional printers who would have been able to make a more sophisticated end result and I wouldn’t have had to spend hours with card and glue and scissors!

There is an overwhelming variety of stationery to suit every style and budget available today, and therefore there are a few things you may want to consider when it comes to choosing wedding stationery for your big day. Remember, you might want to have R.S.V.P. cards, thank you cards, place cards, table numbers, menus and orders of service as well as your save the date and invitations!

The Style

The first step is look consider the style of your stationery. The design you choose should reflect both your personalities whilst giving your guests a hint at the type of wedding you are planning. Traditional weddings usually have elegant white or ivory invitations with black or grey print but if your wedding is something different (I got married on a pirate ship!) go for something a bit funkier! Couples that are environmentally minded may choose recycled paper and organic detail for their invitations.

Find the right Supplier

It’s wise to research suppliers. Many will have websites showing exactly what they offer, like Aura Print. Be sure to check out any testimonials from previous customers which will help inform your decision. Another way to get some guidance is to attend Wedding Fairs where you can talk to potential suppliers and see product samples. Top Tip: go with a supplier who won’t charge for sample drafts of your design and who don’t start a new order for any extras you add to your order, which will end up costing you more!

Keep your budget in mind

Every penny is precious when it comes to your wedding budget and the cost of wedding stationery can add up quickly so keep your eyes peeled for any extra hidden costs. Paper type and formats will change the price. Some companies have a price per card that includes everything you need but others don’t include things like insert paper, envelopes and personalisation costs. Bespoke invites designed to your exact specifications will cost more. Ordering stationery well in advance can help cut down postage costs – no need to fork out for faster delivery. Top Tip: Don’t forget you can send one invitation per household and not one per person!

Get the right wording

Don’t forget that your wedding stationery needs to do more than look pretty, especially your invitations! Your guests need to know exactly when and where to go, so make sure the text is clear, legible and includes all the key details: your names, the hosts, the venue, time, date, reception details, gift list information and RSVP details required.

Lastly, don’t forget to keep copies for yourselves for mementoes. Save the Date cards and invitations are lovely when framed and displayed.
