Easter Activities in North Yorkshire for You and the Kids

With the Easter holidays close at hand, it is once again time to start putting plans in place for you and your family. The holidays are a great chance to regroup and reconnect after a tough first few months to the year. With so many activities available in and around North Yorkshire, God’s own country presents the perfect location for a holiday retreat – whether an Easter staycation in a holiday home or simply a day out at one of the many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Egg Hunts Across Yorkshire

There’s nothing quite like a good egg hunt on an Easter holiday – and in order to get your kids that thrillful fix, Yorkshire’s offerings do not disappoint. There are egg hunts in National Trust sites across the region, with Fountains Abbey and Beningborough Hall being excellent options for a beautiful day out and a hint of hunt-based adventure.

Skipton Castle Woods

Skipton Castle Woods is accessible via a beautiful canal path, that imparts peerless views of the castle and surrounding nature; on arrival, you are greeted with the wonders of a natural English rainforest, with handy pathways to follow and myriad areas of calm at its riverbanks. For a nature-themed day out and a good excuse for a walk, look no further.

Brimham Rocks

Brimham Rocks is a national treasure year-round, boasting impressive rock formations to clamber and mount, and even more impressive views of the surrounding countryside. The Easter holidays represent a great opportunity to gather the children and take in the sights. Just beware that the area can be dangerous for little ones, especially if unsupervised. Dress practically!

Dusty and Stink’s Detextive Adventures, Harrogate

For something a little more curated, this ‘Detextive Adventure’ is a family day out like no other. In Harrogate’s Valley Gardens, you and your children are swept up in a sleuthing adventure AR (Augmented Reality) game, where a mystery is solved by searching the gardens for answers and receiving clues from characters via text message. The adventure is an engrossing one, and also customisable: there are two tiers of difficulty so the older ones can have a bit more of a challenge, and you can solve the mystery at your own pace – unless you choose to compete in teams.

Holiday Camps

If you’re looking to give your kids a true adventure – or, at the very least, looking for a bit more quality time away from them – there are a number of residential holiday camps in the region that provide all sorts of activities, as well as opportunities to meet and socialise with other kids. Yorkshire Camps in Threshfield is a particularly popular option, with a bumper Easter weekend of group activities set in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales.
