Cricut: Your crafty friend

There’s nothing quite like sitting back and admiring a craft project which you have just completed – all that time and effort (sometimes blood, sweat & tears) was worth while and you’re the new proud owner of a sweater, handmade Christmas card or personalised gift.

I know from experience that nothing beats that satisfied feeling! Not only do I enjoy crochet and baking, but I also spent time last year designing and producing my own save the date and invitations for my Wedding – fiddly work involving much cutting and sticking, but it was all worth it in the end. I really could have done with a tool to help me make my personalised stationary at home without so much trouble, I recently heard about an exciting new crafting tool from Cricut (pronounced cricket) which can help me do just that.

The Cricut Mini, from creative crafting products company Provo Craft, is a small and portable electronic cutting machine that is capable of cutting many different materials including paper, card, fabric, vinyl and iron-on materials to help you make those special details really shine such as lettering or graphics. The device runs via both Mac or PC computing systems and is perfect for producing your own personalised cards, gift bags, clothing, room decoration and much more. Download the Cricut Craft Room software, connect theCricut Mini to a computer, select a template and get cutting, it is that simple.

I really love the idea of being able to produce real hand made, personalised gifts and cards for my friends and family. For years I have been meaning to dedicate time to putting together Christmas gift hampers rather than raiding the shops for the usual array of items. The idea of being able to make my own Christmas cards, party invites, decorations, table cloths, wall vinyl, gift bags & tags etc for the coming winter season really excites me! It might just have to go onto my Christmas gift list so I am prepared for a creative 2014!
