Creating A Craft Or Sewing Room That You Will Love

Having a craft or sewing room has always been a little sign of luxury. Having a spare room to spend time doing your hobby in your own company is absolute bliss. And if you are turning your craft into a business, then having a craft or sewing room that you will love is even more important. Because unlike a home office, where you can work from any room in the house. You cannot work with your craft in any room, because it will just take up too much room. You also take into consideration the mess it will make in other rooms of your house. So having a craft or sewing room means you can shut the door on the mess and walk away for a while.

Here are some great ideas to help you get your craft room ready to use and make the most of space in the craft or sewing room.

You Need Plenty Of Light And Ventilation

You do need natural light to be able to make things in your craft room. If you rely on the lighting, then it will have a yellow tone to it. Natural light is the best, with either no net curtains or fine and thin nets. Keep your curtains open to let as much light in as possible. If you can work by the window, then it is the best place to put your desk.

You could be working with harsh chemicals, so make sure you have good ventilation in your craft room. Imagine working with glue in a room somewhere without windows. In the summer, you could even take your space outside and work in the garden under a shaded area.

Getting Furniture For Your Craft Or Sewing Room

Finding furniture can be fun, especially if you decide to go for furniture to match your craft or hobby. See if you can get an old school desk for your art table or an antique dressmaker’s dummy for your sewing. If drawers are broken it is okay, because you can remove them. Then cover the cupboard with some curtains that you can pull across to hide some mess or piles of stuff.

Make Sure There Is Flooring That You Can Clean Easily

Carpet looks nice on the floor but it really isn’t practical in a craft or sewing room. If you are cutting fabrics, the threads are going to get into the carpet pile. And the carpet is no good if you are using craft products such as clay, paint and even glue. Your best type of flooring is going to be natural flooring or lino. This way you can simply sweep and mop to clean the floor.

Storage Ideas For Your Craft Or Sewing Room

When you have a craft room, your biggest problem could be the lack of storage to keep everything organised and tidy. If you are an artist, think about getting a tool board. You often see them in people’s garages or workrooms, with tools on. You can put your paint brushes on a tool board or your Cricut tools to keep them together.

Pinboards are great for pinning up your notes and ideas. You can also get some padded boards with criss-cross ribbons to pop your ideas and designs in. This keeps all of the paperwork in one place and easy for you to find. You can also put inspirational quotes and photos onto a pinboard.

Get some jars and use them for all of your pens or craft utensils. You can do this for free by keeping hold of your old jars and removing the labels. Put them in the dishwasher, this removes the labels at the same time as cleaning them. If you want to buy some jars, look for some large jars with lids on them. Then you can close them when you are not using them.

If you have rolls of ribbons and want a place to store them with them tangling, then this is an awesome idea. You need to place a curtain rod or some net curtain wire on the wall. Then thread the ribbons through it, to keep them organised. Just undo the curtain rod or wire when you need to remove a roll of ribbons.
