Think Outside The Box for your next Holiday

It seems that we are fast approaching the end of another year, and before we even know it Christmas and New year will be upon us. It is a scary thought, but time really does go at a fast pace.

Sometimes we are lucky enough to get to do all of the resolutions and goals we set out to achieve, and other times we have to think about rolling them over to the following year ahead. Travel can often be one of those things that we put off. Sometimes we just don’t get the time to have the experiences we want, or we stick with things we know and love to do.

Travel, however, could be something that you may like to do more of, and you don’t need a New Years resolution to make you do it, you can start to think about it at any time. But the problem people tend to have is wondering what to do. Where to go? How to travel?

How long for and what to experience when you get there? With that in mind, here are some of the inspiring travel ideas that get you thinking outside of the box. Perhaps it may give you the nudge you need to make some new and exciting travel plans for the future.

Volunteer abroad

Sometimes it’s worth considering a travel idea with a difference. Too many of us would opt for a beach vacation and let our feet get submerged in white sandy shores, But while that type of holiday is a great way to relax, why not try something different next time?

You could consider a chance to volunteer abroad which could prove a wonderful holiday option. Working with animals, volunteering for a charity campaign, the options are endless. What this type of holiday does give you is a bit of perspective on your life. While making some fantastic memories in the process. It could be the perfect way to spend some time off.

Consider something out of character

Maybe the next twelve months is all about trying new things for you, so why not use the opportunity to try a holiday that perhaps is out of character for you? That could be taking a cruise. Cruising is seen as something for older couples, but more younger people are taking the chance to see many locations during one travel expedition.

This is when you could look and search luxury cruises at Bolsover Cruise Club to figure out what options you have. Plus the entertainment and food options aboard these cruise liners are so far removed from what they used to be. It’s definitely worth trying at some point in your life.

Work abroad

Who says travel needs to be stuck to a two-week window? Why not try and extend your travel plans by working abroad? This can be an excellent way to develop your work experience and to gain some new skills. Working abroad gives you the chance to experience a different culture, and while working, you also get the chance to live like a local.

You could do this for three months, six or even longer, depending on the opportunity and where it is. It might be an option that you have to plan for in advance, but it could be a great way to help you improve your career and adding travel as an element of it.

Go backpacking

Backpacking is often associated with someone who is taking a gap year from school or education, or perhaps is in their early twenties exploring the world before heading into a job or career path.

However, you can go backpacking at any age and at any stage of your life. It often means exploring different parts of a country, and it gives you the chance to see some amazing places. It also might mean that you stay in hostel style accommodation or explore Airbnb options, but this can really add to the experience.

Backpacking gives you a chance to meet people doing the same thing, and it can often mean that you make some lifelong friendships in the process. You could choose to do it alone, or with a group of people. It might be worth having an active social media and a contact number so that you can keep in touch with people at home with your travel plans and your route.

Head to the airport and get on the first available flight

This is often one that is on a bucket list, but who’s to say it needs to be a special occasion? You could have a two-week window or even a weekend and just behad to the airport with minimal packing such as hand luggage and then jump on the first available plane.

It may take you somewhere you might not have considered before, or a place you have never been to, and it adds an element of excitement as you frantically try and navigate accommodation and what to do when you get there. This option might not be for the faint-hearted, and for the planners amongst you it may send you into turmoil, but as a one-off, it could certainly be an adventure not to forget.

Hire a car and head out exploring

If you still want to enjoy the beach resort holiday then why not kick it up a notch and hire a car? This gives you a chance to explore different areas within the location, and it can often allow you to find great beaches, lovely villages or towns, and maybe even a chance to take in some of the history. It gets you out of the hotel and away from the pool for a few hours to truly see the place you have visited.

Try a city break somewhere new

City breaks are full of history and culture, don’t you think? The chance to wander the streets and soak in the atmosphere of a new place. City breaks are best experienced trying to see and do as much as you can in a short space of time.

So ensure you plan your trip accordingly to make sure you experience as much of the city as possible. This could be anything from the different excursions and places you want to see, to the restaurants you want to eat in and the food that you want to try.

A city break can give you so much, and it can be a great way to enjoy a weekend or a few days as a couple or even as a family. You may be surprised how receptive children are to history and culture when they are younger.

Consider exploring the country you live in

Sometimes we don’t take advantage of the country we live in, so maybe the next year is the time to explore it a little more. Taking in some of the less known cities perhaps, or some of the tourist hotspots close to home. Too often we don’t take advantage of the place we live, and a lot of the time we have so much closer to home, that it can make for some of the best holidays.

Camping can be a huge adventure

If you are staying close to home, or even travelling somewhere new, maybe consider camping as your form of accommodation instead of the standard hotel or holiday let.

Camping can be a lot of fun and can add to your holiday. Putting the tent up, cooking outside and sleeping under the stars are just some of the highlights.

Let’s hope this has inspired you to consider some different travel ideas for the new year ahead.
