Send A Cow #Christmas #Charity Gift Ideas

At Christmas it’s easy to forget the hardship that other people all around the world face at this time of year. For a few years now charities have been reaching out to us at this festive time of year offering us virtual gift options for our friends and family which have benefits for those in need and this year I want to tell you about Send A Cow who kindly sent me one of their amoosing Christmas Jumpers* designed to raise awareness.

Started by West Country farmers 25 years ago, Send A Cow has transformed the lives of over one million people by working hand- in-hand with families in Africa and teaches them skills to help them free themselves from poverty and hunger via supplying training, livestock, seeds and support.

The charity has a whole host of gift ideas in their Christmas catalogue which really make a difference to poverty-stricken families in Africa.  Choose from big gifts such as a ‘Local Cow’  (£205), which provides milk and manure; ‘Little Donkey’ (£9) which helps families care of the donkeys which transport produce to market; and ‘Tip Tap’ (£10), a best-seller which boosts hygiene.

Send A Cow’s ambassador, Gloria the cow, models a Christmas jumper to help raise awareness of Send a Cow’s aim of selling 20,000 festive gifts to help aid people in need in Africa. Replace your traditional jumper pattern of snowmen or cracker for this udderly stylish Christmas jumper has been created to showcase the charity’s latest catalogue and was custom-knit for comfort with the fashion-conscious cow in mind.

Gloria the cow, a purebred Jersey from Devon, didn’t bat an eyelid at being fitted with the jumper, which fits with Velcro straps and is based on one of her existing comfortable coats.

Simon Barnes, CEO of Send a Cow said; “This year we’ve taken the idea of the quirky Christmas jumper one step further, to encourage people to think differently about the gifts they buy this Christmas. Instead of buying chocolate for a friend, why not buy something unusual – for as little as £5 you will greatly improve the lives of poverty-stricken families in Africa. This is our 13th year of the Christmas catalogue and over the years we’ve raised over eight million pounds to help poor families. We really hope that you will support us this year by buying a gift, to help us change even more lives this Christmas and beyond.”

So if you have some people left to shop for this December then take a moment to think about those worse off than you who would be grateful for life improving gifts of seeds, a beehive or a milk churn. Take a look at the whole range here: http://www.sendacowgifts.org.uk/all
