My ideal home office set up

Since I started working from home as a digital marketing consultant around three and a half years ago I haven’t achieved my perfect home office set up which is pretty pathetic! I see other people sharing photographs of their beautiful and functional workspaces and it makes me very jealous.

My main problem has been that my workspace hasn’t been in the same place for the last 3 years, in fact, my ‘workspace’ has been in 3 different rooms in my house as our need for space has evolved and changed.

I recently moved my home office space yet again and I had a good think as to what I really needed and wanted from an ideal home office in terms of function and style and these were my considerations:

The perfect furniture

As someone who makes a living on a computer having the correct desk is really important to me for health and comfort. There are several things to think about when choosing a desk such as what you want to put on it as well as what height, shape etc is best for posture. I ended up choosing a large L shaped desk which houses my computer, printer etc as well as some craft supplies and gadgets as I am an avid crafter.

As my husband is an Osteopath I had plenty of information to help me pick out the best desk chair to support me whilst I am sitting working away for hours at a time. I also had to think about the other furniture in the room for when I am not working but crafting or just hanging out – reception seating is designed for comfort and makes for a good option.

Lighting

Before I moved my office to its current location it was set up in a small spare bedroom which sadly didn’t get much natural light and I relied mostly upon an electric ceiling light or a floor lamp when I was working or taking photographs which weren’t optimal.

Of course, I prefer natural light where possible, especially for taking photographs and the room I am in now is much bigger with a large window which brings in a tonne of light – thank goodness, however, I do find myself enjoying brighter light especially when working on crafts which can be fiddly.

I’m still on the lookout for a suitable minimal Scandi style floor lamp for just such occasions. I am also tempted to hang fairy lights around the room to give it a bit of character!

Decoration

As I have mentioned I really love a simple Scandi style colour palette and decoration. My ideal home office space would have a few personal touches such as motivational quotes on the wall and photos of friends and family on the desk to make me smile when I am having a stressful day, however, I have yet to add these!

I love to browse Etsy and I have found several pieces of decor that I’d love to add to my new workspace including this girl boss print, this wooden ‘office’ sign and this great ‘get sh*t done’ motivational plaque!

I find having a whiteboard or pinboard on the wall very helpful as I can keep track of important information or documents so I will definitely want to include one in my ideal set up.
