Work Wear for Different Seasons

Monday mornings are tough no matter what season is. Our alarm rings, and we repeatedly hit snooze prioritising sleep above everything, from eating to showering, and even figuring out an outfit. Nothing is more important than our denial that the weekend is over and Monday has somehow sneakily crept up upon us and no matter how many times we hit snooze – it just won’t go away.

The next few minutes are met with frantic panic as we try and do all that we have put aside; eat, shower and change in the last five minutes we have before we are officially late. When it comes to finding the best work attire, it’s important to find something that’s going to make you feel fierce as well as foxy – something that makes you feel powerful and professional. Ensuring you feel ready to take on anything the day throws at you, anything from conferences, to board meetings It’s not all tailored pants, blazers and collared shirts, if only it were that simple.

With the common consensus of the workplace being a place where style and self-expression go to die, where clothes are uninspiring and that everyone is made to look the same. For a bit of inspiration check out this seasonal guide to workwear, so you don’t feel too overwhelmed when finally starting your morning routine – extra minutes not included.

Spring

Spring brings us a break from the oversized sweater and the staple winter coat – hallelujah. We can finally get our hands on cooler lighter fabrics and vibrant, detailed fabrics. Don’t be afraid to embrace the warm weather and welcome the ability to wear floaty floral dresses and dazzling pastels. Embrace the intricate and elaborate patterns in the fabrics – mix and match with the different designs textures and shapes. The key to pulling off something that feels too casual for a professional space is with balance and contrast. If we decided to wear a pair of tailored cigarette pants with a flared sleeve shirt, we should then contrast the somewhat casual look with geometric jewellery and smart heels – even a blazer if we are heading to a meeting. Try utilise colours and fabrics in spring as they will allow you to bend the rules of the work attire handbook.

This is also the season to show some skin – obviously still within the realms of being work appropriate but it’s time for us to flaunt what our momma’s gave us and then blame it entirely on the fact that it is too hot to wear anything else. This is our time to sport shorter dresses and skirts. Summer is more about colour than detail so use it to make a statement.

However this doesn’t mean our attire can get sloppy, there will always be someone wearing their Ugg boots over their tights – don’t let it be you. Winter is all about good tailoring, amazing fabrics and rich colours. Invest in a statement coat or chic bomber as it is the first thing most people will see of our outfits in winter.
