What to wear this Autumn
Autumn has arrived and if you haven’t already updated your wardrobe, what are you waiting for!? We’ve spoken to Emma Kenyon, a junior designer at dresses retailer QUIZ Clothing, to find out her must-have trends and items for autumn/winter 2017:
Trend #1: Checks
Checks are a great all-rounder and we’re always glad to see our tartan shirts. This season, it’s all about grey checks on everything from dresses to skirts, trousers and tops.
A great way of nailing this trend is with a checked blazer — incredibly versatile, you can wear it over jeans and a tee for a fashion-forward daytime look, with co-ordinating trousers for work or over a dress for a glam evening look.
Trend #2: Mustard
Think of autumn/winter and you’ll likely think of dark colours like black, brown and burgundy. For AW17, a new colour is on the scene: mustard.
A bold and bright addition to your wardrobe, you can incorporate this rich shade through statement-making knits and blouses, or subtly through your accessories. Keep the rest of your outfit muted to really make the colour pop.
Trend #3: Sheer Lace
Inspired by D&G’s must-have black lace dress, embrace vampy vibes with sheer lace detailing. Keep it subtle on tops or blouses, or go for all-out glamour with a black lace dress — this timeless style can be worn year-after-year.
With the party season fast approaching, this is the perfect trend for all of your upcoming social events — just add heels and glam jewellery.
Must-have item #1: Metallic Puffa Jacket
Standout from the crowd in a metallic puffa jacket. 90s-inspired padded jackets emerged last year and it’s great to see them back again for AW17 — after all, they’re super cosy!
Wear yours during the day with jeans, boots and a sophisticated knit. The metallic finish will add a smarter edge to your look. It will effortlessly take you from Christmas shopping with the girls to post retail therapy cocktails!
Must-have item #2: Red Boots
There will always be a place for our favourite black and brown boots in our wardrobe, but this year we’re going bold and bright with a head-turning pair of red boots.
It’s the ideal time of year to be wearing red and yours will take you through all of your social commitments, from Christmas shopping to the office party. For extra style points, wear yours with black jeans and your grey checked blazer.
