Review: Tacobear Dog Sling Carrier

Vlad and Roxi with Tacobear Dog Sling Carrier

We had an exciting addition to our family at the end of last year when Roxi the yellow labrador came to live with us. Luckily she has settled in very well and Lexi is being a good big sister playing with her and cuddling up with her at night.

Like all young pups, Roxi needs to have a course of vaccinations before she is allowed to walk in public areas or meet dogs who might carry diseases as her young immune system would struggle to fight off any nasties. We booked her in at the vet a few days after we picked her up to get her first round of jabs and she will need to go back at the end of the month for the final ones.

Between now and then we’ve been trying to give her as many experiences as possible to make sure that she is happy with all manner of sounds, smells and people so she will grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Of course, this can be hard when she’s not allowed to walk around outside of the house!

I decided to look for a puppy carrier which would be the solution to our problem so that Roxi could leave the house and get to experience the wide outdoors without having the risks. I wanted something that would be both comfortable and practical and was disappointed that most carriers I found were designed only to support smaller, lighter dogs.

However, finally I came across the Tacobear Dog Sling Carrier which boasted being able to hold a pet up to 22lbs in weight (Roxi is just over 10lbs) and had positive reviews on Amazon from previous purchasers who found it easy and comfortable to use.

The Tacobear Dog Sling Carrier is a sling type carrier designed to allow the user to have their hands free while using the loop over the shoulder and the opposite hip to support the pet. It is made of pretty, reversible machine washable soft cotton fabric which makes it nice to wear as well as snug for the pup.

The carrier incorporates a safety collar hook to ensure your pet is safe and secure which prevents the pet from jumping out of the carrier and hurting themselves. The sling folds flat when not being used, so it is easy and convenient to store when not in use.

So, how have we got on? So far I have been very happy with the carrier. It is easy to get Roxi in and out of the sling without causing her any undue stress and she is happy to sit or lay down in the sling whilst I walk. I have found it to be comfortable to wear, probably due to the wide fabric shoulder strap which sits nicely in place and doesn’t rub or apply too much pressure.

The only slight concern is with the metal rings which are used to fasten the sling together which are a little flimsy – with enough weight or a sharp tug the rings will likely separate and the sling would fall apart – obviously not safe! However, so far the rings have held fast so we are happy to use it and just be mindful.

The Tacobear Dog Sling Carrier has proven itself (so far!) to be a good combination of convenience, comfort and style for anyone with a puppy, older dog or just a dog that doesn’t like going too far! I award it 5 stars.
