Review: STABILO BOSS Original Pastel Highlighters

STABILO BOSS Original Pastel Highlighters

I have experimented with lots of different stationery since starting my Bullet Journal in order to find out what works best for me in terms of practicality as well as making my journal look great.

One of the most basic ways to decorate a page is to use highlights to emphasise headings and create contrast against an otherwise plain white page.

There are lots of highlighters out there, but when I spotted the STABILO BOSS Original Pastel Highlighters I knew I had to try them having never had pastel highlighters before. Of course, everyone remembers Stabilo highlighters from school when they really only had neon colours to help with studying, so the trendy pastel ones are something a bit special.

The pastel highlighters come in a set of six colours: yellow, blue, green, pink, purple and orange and use water-based high pigment inks to create vibrant colours on the page. They have the classic wedge tip which makes it easy to use broad 5mm lines (for headings), as well as slimmer 2mm underlines.

I have discovered that the thick lines produced by the wedge tip are the perfect width for my journal, making a clean line in one stroke. I have found them perfect for going over ink from roller ball and Copic multi-liners without smudging which is really important when setting up a nice neat layout in my Bullet Journal.

The pastel highlighters do not create ghosting on the other side of the page as long as you don’t go over an area too much.

I like that they use Stabilo’s anti-dry out technology which means they are fine without a lid off for 4 hours, as sometimes I do wander off and forget to put the caps back on! Another bonus is their distinctive shape which is comfortable to grip and prevents the pens from rolling off the table and getting lost!

I am loving using these STABILO BOSS Original Pastel Highlighters to set up my journal for next year (early I know!), using them along with basic black lines to make a minimal, elegant design a big contrast to this year’s journal which is full of stickers, washi tape and a multitude of coloured pens.

I award the STABILO BOSS Original Pastel Highlighters 5 out of 5 stars.
