Review: Porridge from MOMA!

I have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with porridge. I used to really love having it for breakfast, and my family even had a tradition of making porridge on Christmas morning (complete with brown sugar and cream as a treat). Since then I think I have gotten somewhat bored with porridge, but when I had the chance to review one of the breakfast products from MOMA! I wanted to give it a go and see how I rated this brand which I had not tried before – I was given one of their plain porridge pots* to try.

MOMA want to change our breakfasts, especially for people like me who commute and have little time for a good breakfast in the morning which is a bad habit, as you need to have a proper start to a busy day. I have to admit to grabbing more than a few tomato and mozzarella croissants on the way to the office which just can’t be good for me. MOMA’s key ingredient is jumbo oats which are a good source of slow releasing energy and are rich in fibre, are low GI and help lower cholesterol.

MOMA was started by a single guy, Tom, and the brand now have a team all dedicated to bringing you a healthy breakfast on the go across London and beyond.

The MOMA pot is certainly quick and easy – the instructions are simple, open the pot and add hot water, stir and allow to stand for 3 minutes. As the pot I tried had no sugar (much healthier than my normal work-day breakfasts) – I added a teaspoon of Steen’s Manuka honey to give it a bit of sweetness. I was lucky enough to have been gifted a jar of raw 10+ Manuka Honey recently – more on that soon.

The MOMA porridge was surprisingly tasty, especially as it was made with hot water without milk or any other sort of enrichment (except the honey). It had a creamy texture which was pleasant and really did keep me full which was important as I had a busy day attending VegFest2014 that day.

MOMA’s range also include porridge with golden syrup, cranberry and raisin as well as original. They also offer a Bircher muesli option – jumbo oats with live low-fat probiotic yoghurt & fruit – if you want something a bit more for breakfast- with options including strawberry and banana, peach and apple as well as wild berries.

I award MOMA 3 out of 5 stars for offering workers a healthy, surprisingly tasty breakfast alternative to snacking on the go which is more often than not an unhealthy option.
