Review: Heywood House #Hotel Liverpool #hiddengem

If you weren’t following my social media accounts recently would would have missed that I had spent a night in Liverpool to attend the live pitch and panel he Duke of York New Entrepreneur of the Year Award event, part of the National Business Awards. Whilst there I stayed at the Heywood House Hotel which was conveniently a short journey from the venue for the event. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, having never been to Liverpool before and having only had a brief look at the hotel’s website as it was booked through work.

The Heywood House Hotel was founded Benjamin and Arthur Heywood, brothers from Ireland, with the building itself being built in 1799 and today is Liverpool’s oldest bank building. Working as merchants as well as having a number of business interests the bothers managed to save up a good amount of money and they simply did not have anywhere to put it as the concept of public banking had not been established – so they established their own and it really took off. The building passed down the generations until finally it stopped being a bank and became a 4 star Hotel and in my opinion a bit of a hidden gem.

Heywood House Hotel claims to be the UK’s first and only ‘budgetique’ with decor being unique with a mix of original features with modern touches making each room different from the next. I was really happy to see that the Hotel had retained some of it’s spectacular design and architectural features.

From the outside, admittedly, the Hotel did not look like anything special – however when my lovely co-workers Cat (@catherineelaine) & Charlie and I left the reception area and made our way to our rooms we were amazed at the interior features and the character of the spacious and grand staircase, large doors and the lovely decoration.

On entering my spacious room the first thing I saw was a beautifully made up bed complete with bath robes which looked very inviting. I also noticed the large screen TV and the bathroom which looked modern and very clean – not forgetting the rather sweet little Heywood House Hotel rubber duck! Having put my luggage down and settled in a little I began to notice the little details which I really feel make a difference – the bottled water on the table, the complimentary bath items (shampoo, body wash, bath salts, soap), the Bose speakers, the hot drinks station complete with shortbread biscuits and even a lovely writing set in the desk.

Having unpacked a little I decided to try out the shower, whose mechanism took a little getting used to, but once I had it worked out I enjoyed a long hot shower trying out some of the bath products (noticing that I seemed to be missing conditioner for my hair) and afterwards the soft towels. After being refreshed from my shower I closed the beautiful curtains which made the room very dark – being somewhat amazed at the size of the windows – and snuggled into bed. I had been a little worried having sat on the bed earlier that it might be a bit hard but I have to admit I had a really great night’s sleep!

In the morning I felt rested and ready to take on the day, enjoying a coffee from the in-room refreshments whilst packing my things. I enjoyed my short but sweet stay at Liverpool’s Heywood House Hotel and award it 4 out of 5 stars for the lovely building, modern convinces,  comfort and good value at under £100 per night. The staff were also polite and helpful when it came to pointing out places to eat in the local area. I would definitely consider coming back to the Heywood House Hotel and recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit different from their accommodation in Liverpool.
