Review: City Kitchen Spiced Potatoes

I am always looking for something new and tasty to have for my lunch when I am at work. I tend to get bored if I have the same thing for a few times in a row, so when I spotted the City Kitchen Spiced Potatoes in my local Tescos I decided to give it a go.

Being vegetarian can make finding prepared meals which are office-friendly difficult – most of them will have either fish or meat and usually the vegetarian option is a plain salad to which I have to add extras such as cheese to make it more interesting.

The City Kitchen Mediterranean Vegetable & Potatoes dish is simple to prepare, simply heat in the microwave for 3 minutes and give a good stir before serving. Perfect for lunch at my desk.

I was a little worried that the dish would be a bit bland as some veggie options can be, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is made up of several components: roasted aubergine, potato & vegetables in a tomato and garlic sauce topped with parsley.

The vegetables have a good amount of seasoning and spicing including: Red Chilli, Oregano, Thyme, Black Pepper, Garlic Purée, Spices, Salt, Paprika and Turmeric Powder. All these combined create a lovely warming mix which highlights the vegetables.

I must admit that, despite being flavorful and an enjoyable lunch the City Kitchen Spiced Potatoes lacks protein and so left me feeling a little hungry. I would recommend adding a protein option, perhaps paneer which would be a nice balance to the strong spices.

I award The City Kitchen Mediterranean Vegetable & Potatoes dish 4 out of 5 stars, for being a quick and tasty office lunch with some great flavor combinations and kicking me out of my lunch rut.
