Review: Chambers Leather Care Products

You might have seen on my social media that recently I purchased a beautiful new leather Radley handbag, and as an investment, I am keen to ensure that it remains in good condition.

Leather needs a bit of love now and again to keep it clean, undamaged and supple so it looks its best! Chambers, who offer a range of leather care products, got in touch recently offering me the chance to try out some of their conditioners, cleaners and waterproofers and I was very happy to accept.

I was sent:

    • Leather balsam Vanilla*, Lavender* & Unscented*
    • Leather Waterproofer*
    • Natural Foaming Leather Cleaner*
    • A cleaning cloth*

The balsam products are designed to condition and nourish leather, providing protection and reviving older leather which needs a boost. They are made with beeswax (light waterproofing and sheen), coconut oil (a saturated fat that does not go off), jojoba oil to help penetration of the fabric and orange oil which is a natural antioxidant. The balsam is made of a non-toxic formula and does not contain silicone.

These balsams are colour-free and do not cause discolouration of the leather, brightening and reviving the fabric. It is best to test the balsam on a small hidden area of your leather goods just to be sure! The balsam products help to prolong the life of furniture, car seats, bags, shoes, saddle leather, all smooth leather. However, it is not for use on suede or nubuck.

I really like this product. It is easy to apply – I simply use my hands to massage it into the leather, and after application my handbag looks shiny and it makes the leather feel soft and healthy. It actually makes my hands feel good too! I also like that it comes in handy 15ml pots as well as the bigger 200ml tub, as you can easily slip one of the small pots into a bag for little top ups when required. The one small complaint I have is that the leather did feel a bit sticky after I applied the balsam, however, I was quite generous when applying so this may have just been my fault rather than a fault of the product.

I have not yet used the Chambers Leather Waterproofer or foaming cleanser, but look forward to trying them soon. The waterproofer is described as a product designed to protect leather from within and requires heat for application. It is best suited for dark leather, black or brown, as it will darken the fabric. It’s perfect for use on shoes, to give them a new lease of life.

The Foaming Leather Cleaner is made with plant extracts and glycerine which loosens dirt, grease and surface stains so you can easily wipe them off, without breaking down essential oils. It is pH balanced for use on leather and is suitable for all smooth leather except suede and nubuck. Cleaning your leather is a two steps process, first it must be cleaned and then conditioned to keep it looking pristine.

I am awarding Chambers 4 out of 5 stars for giving my beautiful handbag a special sheen, a soft touch and helping to buff away some marks on the leather. I look forward to continuing my leather care regime in the future using these products.

  1. This is a really good product, hadn’t thought about it before. Seems silly to spend so much on really nice leather items but not look after them. A few of my bags need some tlc.
