Review: Brewdolph #Christmas #Coffee from Make Decent Coffee

One thing you can always rely on around Christmas is a sudden influx of new flavours of one of our favourite beverages: coffee. From eggnogg lattes to chocolate orange mochas we just can’t get enough of festive brews around December. So when Make Decent Coffee got in touch to see if I would review their Christmas coffee,  BrewDolph*, I decided to give it a go.

The beans which make up Brewdolph come from Ethiopia. which amazingly is where coffea arabica, the coffee plant, originally comes from! Despite not being the largest coffee producer, ranking 5th behind countries like Brazil, coffee is an indigenous cultural tradition. The coffee is harvested between November and March is processed naturally – with the coffee ‘cherries’ being left in the sun before the flesh is removed. In Ethiopia most of the coffee is grown on 700,000 small farms, at least 50% of which are in semi forested areas and all of which are at an altitude of 900 to 1,200 metres.

The country produces a range of different coffees with each region offering it’s own distinctive flavour making some of the Ethiopian beans the best and most sought after in the world.

Brewdolph’s beans come from the town of Yirgacheffe, a place renowned for producing coffee with strong floral aromas alongside intense citrus flavours. I have to admit that one of the best parts of preparing the festive coffee was being able to grind them! It’s so satisfying and the smell of these beans was just fabulous. I prepared the Brewdolph in a cafetiere, however you can also use an aeropress, chemex or V60 pourover.

Make Decent Coffee has some fantastic guides to preparing coffee, check them out here: https://www.makedecentcoffee.com/about/how-to-guides

I really liked the Brewdolph coffee. I could definitely taste the citrus notes of the Ethiopian beans alongside the rich and deep coffee flavour that all of us coffee addicts love. The beans have notes of lemon alongside, blueberries and spice which goes really well with mince pies and other festive delights bound to be consumed in December. Brewdolph comes in 250g bags which you can buy for £5 from the Make Decent Coffee website.

I award this festive coffee 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for a festive kick to their daily brew!

I really love the Costa Coffee Christmas menu this year, I have personally enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Latte which was simply delicious and the ‘Cheeseboard Panini with Festive Chutney’ made from creamy french, mature cheddar and red Leicester and cranberry sauce in a stone-baked sourdough Panini just sounds amazing.

If you are after a sweet treat, nothing beats salted caramel! Try the Salted Caramel Yule Log made up of rich chocolate cake with decadent salted caramel sauce, topped with chocolate frosting, hand finished with a cube of salted fudge and a sprinkle of gold edible glitter (nothing beats edible glitter!)
