From classic cast iron radiators to unique rainbow coloured ones, there really is something for every kind of interior when it comes to heating your home. You can certainly wave goodbye to the days of the ghastly, clunky heaters you would do anything to hide and instead say hello to a new wave of sleek and stylish radiators you actually want to have (and see!) in your home.

As radiators have enjoyed a recent resurgence in design, many of them are now being used by designers and architects as the standout, statement pieces in the home. However, if you are not as well versed in the art of choosing the perfect radiator, but would like to know how you can, we have put together some handy tips to help you find interior inspiration and hunt down the perfect radiator to heat your home.

Size up your room

First and foremost, you need to consider which rooms need to be heated, and which size model each of them can take. There is no point falling head over heels for a particular type of radiator, only to realise it doesn’t actually fit in the space you have available. It is advised that radiators are placed in the coolest area of the room, so make sure you measure the area (this is usually found under the window or by the door) to avoid disappointment.

Decide on your desired shape

Into your art deco? Inspired by Scandinavian style? Bohemian relaxation or urban modernity filling your home? Whatever style you’ve chosen, you will want a good quality radiator that will either blend into your chosen style or one that will stand out and compliment it.

There are plenty of shapes on offer to match all of these styles, but a classic choice which suits pretty much all interior types is the Royal cast iron radiator. Popular with heaps of designers for many years, this subtle yet stylish piece is guaranteed to stand the test of time, even if you tend to redecorate frequently

Choose your material wisely

Although the main thing to note about your desired material is the energy efficiency of it, not the aesthetic, it is still pretty important if you are passionate about homes, interiors and protecting your style. Cast iron radiators are absolutely the most efficient, taking a little longer to cool down than most others, but you still have aluminium and steel options available, should you so fancy. Believe it or not, ultra modern glass radiators are becoming increasingly popular with designers and architects alike, which are very sleek indeed.

Heat things up with some colour

We mentioned rainbow radiators, and we weren’t lying. With a powder coated finish available on most types of model, you can either opt to adorn it in all of the colours available or simply choose one that matches the room it’s being housed in. The beauty of being able to colour match your radiator to your wall is that it becomes so camouflaged you can barely notice it. Or, you can opt to clash a burnt orange or neon green one against a white wall to really make a statement.

Although you might think this is too much fuss for simply selecting a radiator, they really can make or break a room, and spending a little longer than 30 seconds choosing one can make a real difference to your interior styling.
