London Zoo with London Pass

One of the curses of living in London is that you hardly ever actually do the tourist things because you’re too busy living life to explore the capital’s top sights and attractions – so when London Pass got in touch and offered me a pair of their 1 day passes* I jumped at the chance for my husband and I to visit one of London’s best known attractions: London Zoo.

The London Pass was started in 1999 and is a sightseeing city card which offers great discounts and free entry to 60 of London’s vast array of attractions, saving both time and money – not forgetting getting to skip the queues at locations such as Tower of London, Windsor Castle and the London Bridge Experience. The card also allows you to enjoy 20 exclusive special offers at shops and leisure facilities so you can have a fun-filled day at a portion of the regular cost.

For me London Zoo was the perfect choice, not only because I am a huge animal lover but because London Zoo was the first ‘day trip date’ my husband and I went on together in early 2009 a few months after we had just met, so it is filled with memories of the start of our relationship.

On arrival at London Zoo we gleefully skipped the queue with our London Passes and made a bee-line for the aquarium where we found ourselves surrounded by fascinating fish from all around the world, as well as some amazing turtles and seahorses which were so dainty curled amongst the aquatic plants. Next we explored the reptile house, my husband and I have 3 snakes of our own so it was really fantastic to see the array of snakes and lizards at the Zoo. Of course I kept my eye open for any young wizards who might make the glass partitions disappear!

There were a number of highlights for our day at the Zoo courtesy of the London Pass including the characterful penguins who we saw being fed by the keepers, the new tiger enclosure where one of the majestic creatures roamed around and got within only feet of us and the butterflies and moths which were just hypnotising to watch as the fluttered around their hot and humid home. My husband, a big fan of all things creepy crawly, really enjoyed the bug house where he could get up close and personal with a variety of cockroaches, spiders and locusts!

You can check out some of our favourite sights at the Zoo in this little video montage I made:

My husband and I really enjoyed our day out at London Zoo reliving one of our first dates and seeing the collection of rare and exotic creatures. I really recommend the London Pass for anyone who wants to visit the city and explore the sights. For more information or to order your own London Pass check out the website: londonpass.com
