Holiday Capsule Wardrobe 2022

Holiday Capsule Wardrobe: Summer 2017

I am a list maker. I just can’t help it. Even if I know exactly what I want to pack into my suitcase to take with me on holiday I always make a list, sometimes after I’ve packed just to make sure I have included everything I might need!

I am also not good at packing lightly. Always, without fail, I will have too many clothes with me and ultimately not need half of the items I have packed which means less space in my luggage for mementoes. This year I have put some thought into what I will be taking with me on my travels, so check out my holiday capsule wardrobe below to help you come up with your own guide!

Mix and match!

If you want to have a flexible holiday wardrobe which will keep you looking great for your entire stay then be sure to pick out pieces which can be mixed and matched to create a new look each day.

As a plus-sized lady, I am always looking for new brands that offer comfortable yet stylish clothing for the more curvy lady. One of my favourite brands is Yours Clothing and I have to admit that before I start packing for any holiday I always check to see what their latest plus size fashions are to find a good excuse for me to treat myself to something new!

Keep to neutral shades or to a complementary colour palate in all of the garments so they can be worn together. Don’t overdo patterns as you don’t want to wear too many at once, choose one or two key pieces to have in a pattern and keep your other items neutral.  Strike out outfits that don’t work from day-to-night!

  • 3 camis and 2 long-sleeved tops (my favourite right now is the curve black Aztec print cold shoulder top)
  • 1 or 2 casual dresses or skirts
  • 1 or 2 cardigans, sheer blouses or wraps like the gorgeous curve black broderie Anglaise shirt from Yours Clothing.
  • 1 smarter dress
  • If you’re planning on visiting the gym be sure to take some comfortable workout trousers or jogger shorts.
  • A lightweight jacket/blazer
  • 3 pairs of leggings or trousers – think loose and relaxed for hot temperatures (and sunburn!)
  • 2 swimsuits or bikinis
  • Something comfortable, like a lounge set, to relax in after an exciting day

Accessories

Take some time to really think about what you will need on your holiday. Will you mostly be on the beach or exploring the area? This will help you to decide what is best to take. Multi-purpose and flexible items are best!

  • A hat (that won’t mind being squashed)
  • Multi-purpose scarf – infinity scarves are super versatile and can be worn as a sarong on the beach and as a bolero in the evening
  • A beach-ready bag – think something roomy with shoulder straps which is easy to carry whether on the beach or exploring the city
  • Sunglasses – a must have for protecting your eyes on sunny days
  • In warmer weather jewellery can be irritating so choose only a couple of pieces to wear in the evening to match your smarter outfit

Shoes

It’s tempting to pack shoes for every occasion but do you really need to take every shoe you own? Try cutting down to 3 or 4 pairs maximum to get your through the day and evening: flip flops (beach), flats (day), heels (evening, I suggest kitten heels for comfort). If you are more of an explorer than a beach bum pack at least 2 pairs of shoes for long walks and sightseeing and rotate the shoes when your feet get tired so you don’t wear the same ones every day

Skincare and make-up

One thing I am good at when packing is cutting down my skincare and make-up collection to just essentials. Don’t forget the sun cream! I always take moisturiser and cleansing face wipes with me to keep my skin clean and hydrated. As for make-up, you should be able to make do with just foundation, waterproof mascara, a coloured eyeliner, a lipstick, bronzer and brush. If you’re not a fan of wearing foundation in the heat then try a dual mineral compact or a tinted moisturiser.

What do you usually pack when you go on holiday?
