Cocktails and Chillis: Apples & Pears team up with Baba Gs

To celebrate the launch of Bhangra Burger aka Baba G’s pop up restaurant at Apples & Pears Cocktail bar in Aldgate my sister and I recently visited the bar to check it out.

Baba G’s, who takes all the spices and fresh herbs of a curry and infuses them into top quality flavour filled burgers, moved in with Apples & Pears, Aldgate-end of Brick Lane, on 10th April for a limited time with their famous sliders – delicious spicy burgers with a custom made Apple and Pear chutney, not forgetting the fish and vegetable options. Pop in to experience their tasty treats alongside specially designed cocktails for sipping in the bar’s small but delightful back garden.

We were greeted by the very friendly bar staff on entry who prepared us 2 cocktails* one was the special cocktail designed for the Baba Gs collaboration made with Pink Pigeon Rum, yoghurt, passion fruit, home-made garam masala syrup, cardamom bitters, orange bitters and salt served in a quirky jar, the second cocktail we let the bar tender choose for us and he produced an amazing combination of peanut butter, rum and peanut brittle. Both the cocktails were delicious and we savoured them whilst enjoying the atmosphere in the back garden.

Not only is this combination offering great good and drinks, there’s the Baba G’s Three Chilli Challenge made up of 3 chilli pakora – the famous Bhangra bullets – each with a different chillis the Bullet, Indian Birdseye and scotch bonnet – (the Bhangra Bomb) each of these are hotter than the last. If you don’t burst into flames from taking part in the pakora under 5 minutes you get a glimmer of frame with your name being put up on wall o’ flame and receiving a free t-shirt. If you’re not brave enough to take part (like me!) you can follow the #threechillichallenge.

Despite not getting a chance to try the food my sister and I really enjoyed the cocktails, we even went back to the bar to get 2 more than we purchased ourselves: A Chai Mai Tai and a Black & Stormier – which were fantastic.

Combining the delicious cocktails, spicy food and with live music events taking place each week at the Apples & Pears bar, my sister and I recommend you pop down to give this hidden gem at the end of Brick Lane a go.
