4 Ways To Keep Your House Cleaner For Longer

If only you could spend less time doing the housework and more time actually enjoying your home. It’s the dream, right? Unfortunately, keeping a clean home isn’t easy, and those household chores do mount up.

However…If you really want to make life easier for yourself, here are some tips that we think you will find useful. It’s finally time to start living the dream!

Clean as you go

The longer you keep those dishes in the sink, the longer you are going to spend washing up later on. The more clutter there is in your living room, the more time you will have to spend tidying up later in the week. And the more time you give those nasty spills the opportunity to stain your carpets and other floorings, the more time you will be spending on your hands and knees trying to scrub those pesky stains out.

Therefore, don’t delay. Clean as you go, washing your dishes after you have used them, having a tidy up before you leave a room, and having cleaning stations set up in each room so you can deal with any spills before they create havoc.

Take preventative measures

You can cut down on your chores in some very simple ways. You can do this by keeping doormats at every entrance to your house. Using something with dirt-scraping properties, such as coir matting, you can prevent any dirt and debris from ever reaching the inside of your house. You might also replace some of the carpets in your home.

Especially when it comes to high dirt areas such as your bathroom and kitchen, you might want to install vinyl tiles in place of your carpets as stains can easily be mopped up, and dirt won’t be contained. And before you let your cats and dogs into the house after they have been outside, you might want to add a cleaning station at their usual entry point to scrub away any dirt from their fur and paws.

Get your family involved

Why should you have to do all of the hard work? Get your family involved, using a housework rota to make sure everybody plays their part in keeping the house clean as they go.

And if your children kick up a fuss, you might want to turn housework into a game to make their household chores appear fun and less boring. You might then reward them afterwards, being sure not to treat them to anything that is going to cause yet another mess (such as allowing them to grab an ice cream from the kitchen).

Set up some household rules

There are all kinds of rules you could instil in your household to ensure your home stays cleaner for longer, so think about your family and the rules you could create. As examples, you might use the following.

  • Wash your hands after snack time.
  • Tidy away the toys you were playing with before getting something new out.
  • Shoes off at the door.
  • Leave the room as you found it.
  • Don’t bring upstairs items downstairs (and vice versa).

Pin the rules to a board, and while you might be under the assumption that these instructions are for your children only, they should also apply to you, your partner, and any guests you might welcome into your home.
