3 ways to incorporate velvet into your home

One of this year’s key interior trends is adding texture to a space with the use of velvet. Tactile, sexy and luxurious velvet brings a touch of opulence to both classic and contemporary interiors ranging in colour from bold jewel tones such as emerald and ruby to romantic blush and pastel blue.

From adding a few nice velvet cushions to give the final touch to a bed to fully upholstered sofas and armchairs there are lots of ways to incorporate this lush trend into your home. Check out my favourite 3 ways to do this below.

Statement Sofa

Why not embrace the velvet trend fully and go big and bold with a statement velvet sofa? The snuggly texture and unsurpassed softness of velvet make it perfect for a sofa offering both a stylish look and a comfortable place to relax. Combine traditional styles with contemporary colour palettes for a sleek, on-trend look. There are many beautiful coloured finishes available for your sofa, coloured velvet will add eye-catching wow-factor to a room, whether you choose a subtle pastel hue or a rich jewel tone to take you back to a more glamorous age. There are all sorts of finishes to choose from when it comes to a velvet sofa from deep buttoning, one of my favourites, to stud detail and wood turned legs so you’re sure to find one that fits your interior style.

Bedroom

Upgrade your bedding to create the ultimate comfortable space! Upholstered beds are becoming more popular and it’s easy to see why with upholstered headboard or entire bedframes making a big impact in the most private room in the house. Add drama your bedroom by combining vibrant colours with an oversized button back or curved headboard. If you prefer something a bit more subtle why not go for a grey or black crushed velvet divan bed? Or add a selection of sumptuous velvet cushions and a matching throw to your bed for snuggling up on cold nights. Alternatively, choose to add touches of velvet around the room rather than the bed by adorning dressers, chairs and windows with swaths of this luxurious fabric.

Dining Room

If you’re bored of having a bland dining room then it’s easy to add some glam and adding instant elegance and opulence with velvet upholstered dining chairs. It’s important to keep in mind that velvet is not the most practical finish for a dining chair as cleaning can be a problem but if spillages are rare in your home then go for it! To really up the glamour, look for crushed velvet pieces with a metallic sheen. Choose matching chairs or mix it up and choose different colours for each chair for a modern, funky look, mixing classic style with a contemporary feel. It’s not only individual chairs that look great in velvet, banquette style inbuilt seating works just as well. Team velvet chairs with contemporary wood or metal table for a refreshing contrast
